ENGL& 244 - American Literature I Credits: 5
Humanities, DSJ Colonization, revolution, expansion, war - early America (1600-1865) was a dynamic period filled with exciting new ideas about individual rights and democratic ideals. But what did this new nation think of itself and its promises? This course explores the establishement of an American identity through its literature. We will examine these narratives in the context of their historical periods, their literary movements, their analysis of culture, and their throughlines to today. Formerly ENGL 260
