Through strong curriculum, advising and support, the computer science program at Olympic College provides students with the first two years of a four-year computer science or computer engineering degree. If you are considering a major in computer science, our traditional pathway will provide you with preparation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of computer science as well as a strong foundation in mathematics. Computer science degrees continue to launch individuals into successful career paths. Students earning a transfer degree from OC and eventually a degree from a university have an abundance of career opportunities nationally and locally. These include high demand fields such as Software Engineering, Systems Analysis, and Data Science.

Academic Planning

The courses required to major in computer science vary, depending on the institution and the program chosen. At some institutions, admission into the computer science major is highly selective. Students should work closely with an advisor at the baccalaureate institution they plan to transfer to before finalizing their education plan.

In preparation for transfer, most students will complete the AA-DTA degree. In rare cases or when considering the related field of computer engineering, students may choose to complete the AS-Track 2 degree

Program Outcomes:

  1. Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory to analyze and design software solutions
  2. Identify, formulate, and develop solutions to computational challenges using logical reasoning and problem solving skills
  3. Design, implement and verify software using Java
  4. Apply current design techniques including the effective application of data structures, recursion, and object oriented technologies for software solutions
  5. Understand professional, ethical, legal, and security responsibilities for the computing profession

Quarter by Quarter Plan
