ACES 101 - Diversity and American Culture


Credits: 5

Humanities/Social Science This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary study of diversity in American culture and society. An emphasis is placed on synthesizing and applying key concepts from literature, history, and sociology. Students will examine their own complex identities and experiences as they are constituted through sociohistorical contexts and relationships of power. By way of critical self-reflection and analysis of works by fiction writers, artists, activists, historians, and sociologists, students will explore the intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and ability in relation to lived experiences and larger social systems.

Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL& 101  with a grade of 2.0 or above is strongly recommended.
